@ Tina: I haven’t climbed Batulao but Gulugod is not that hard to climb. The start of the trek is a bit steep, but you can just rest whenever you feel tired. It’s
hi aleah, just wanna ask, is gulugod baboy hard to climb rather than mt batulao? i am just worried if i can reach the summit in gulugod. i can get easily tired maybe because of my weight, hehehehe. Do u have any suggestions or advice for me..
thanks and GOD BLESS
Hey Berna. Minimum stuff you should bring:
– tent
– cookset and mountaineering stove (please don’t build fires there)
– sleeping bag + jacket (it can get cold there at night esp during the ber months)
– food: we at UPMountaineers NEVER bring canned goods. just pre-cook meat, put it in the freezer, then bring it up with you. just make sure to wrap it well in newspapers and plastic bags.
– lots of water (there’s no water source there)
– flashlight
– trowel (to dig your “CR”)
I can’t imagine right now re what NOT to bring. Maybe you can just post the stuff you’re bringing and I can give my opinion 🙂
hi!saw the pics..ganda ng view..my awrabel friends (tawagan namen dto sa office ng trav. buddy) are planning to go there.. hmm can you give some advice on what to bring lang..un impt. at un mga dnmn kelangan dalin.. hahaha FIRST time namen kc lahat yun if ever..appreciate so much ang reply!!THNX IN ADVANCE:) berna:)
@ Sha: I’ve never been to Sombrero Island so I can’t help you there. From Cubao, take the Batangas Pier Bus (JAM Liner in Araneta Center or along EDSA Kamuning), tell the driver to drop you off at the Bauan junction. From there, take the jeep to Anilao then ask na lang which is the cheapest way to go to San Teodoro. It’s either by tricycle (no idea how much) or jeep. If there are only 2 of you, better ang trike, it’s cheaper.
And yes, a shorter version of this was published in the Inquirer. Same content, but just shorter.
Re food, bring your own. May tindahan sa San Teodoro pero snacks lang (as of 2005). As always, make sure to bring your trash down.
tska pala, yung article mo sa inquirer, same content with this post? the one they’ve used as a guide in climbing gulugod?
hello aleah, i’ll take your advice. 🙂 I think we can do it on our own with the help of some locals and you! hehe. thank you for the time really to answer. now i still have few questions, hehe.
1. may i ask for directions on how to get there? from quezon city, maybe from cubao? and to what you mentioned, “Anilao Pier”?
2. may mga kainan bang madadaanan before going up and before going to sombrero island?
3. you think we can get an affordable boat going to sombrero island? on what i’ve read from blogs, they charged 2000 for groups? paano kung 2 lang kami? gusto ko talaga makamura. haha.
@ Sha: If nothing changed when I was last there in 2003/2005, there are no bathrooms at the peak. Just decide which area you and your friends will choose as the “toilet.” Make sure that it is far from the camp. Bring a trowel for use, and you can also bury your used tissue paper. For other trash, remember to bring it down the mountain.
If you go on a guided tour, it can be expensive. If you’re more adventurous, you can do it on your own. The trail is clear, and if you get lost, you can pass by small communities and the locals will tell you where to go. Be polite, be friendly, and never leave trash there.
If there are only two of you, hire a trike from the Anilao pier to take you to the junction. Then it’s up, up, up 🙂 The next day, just find the trail going down. There are a lot of resorts in Anilao where you can snorkel.
Hello, dun sa gulugod baboy, sa taas na, san kayo umiihi or pupu? nagbbrush ng teeth?
I enjoyed reading your post.:) I was really inspired, and now I want to go there too. http://www.cdokay.com/
@Jeffeson: Thank you. Gulugod is a wonderful mountain to climb!
Nice one Mam, very inspirational
hi ipha. start small 🙂 like this mt gulugod baboy, it's very easy to climb. wonderful view pa at the top!
anyway, let me know next time when you're in town!
Wow Aleah, I'm so impressed and inspired of you talaga! I can still recall our first meeting in 2005 while we have convention at Cebu. I had all these sets of clothings hanged in my room cabinet while you just brought some basic stuff. LOL!
I do want to become a mountainer at least as a hobby but I'm not just confident enough if I could endure all the hardships of climbing. Maybe one day…
Anyway, hope we can hang out one of these days.
Take care sa climb! =)
hi fredd! yup, this was uploaded in the applicants' page in the old upm website. the published version was actually much shorter. i just thought i'd post it here since i don't see it anymore in the upm site. sayang din. 🙂 thanks for dropping by!
Ei Aleah, naMiss kong basahin to..eto rin yung nasa dating official website ng UP Mountaineers di ba? Nung nag-a-aspire pa lang akong sumali sa UPM, eto yung isa sa mga inspirations ko e…
