Yes, roadkills are a common sight especially in urban areas. In the Philippines, I’ve seen cats (*cry*), dogs, and other small animals like rats on the road being repeatedly run over. In other countries, you’d see deer, rats, skunks, squirrels, kangaroos, and even bears.
Have you ever seen a fish roadkill though? In my town of Montalban, Rizal, there is a causeway across the Wawa River. Every time there’s a heavy rain, the river runs through it, leaving a lot of janitor fish on the road once the causeway dries up. Whenever I see those fish, I usually throw them back into the river. I couldn’t stand seeing them slowly die on the road.
The roadkill in the picture is one of the dozens of janitor fish I saw one day. It made me quite a bit sad to know nobody cared enough to take them out of harm’s way.

@ Fetus: You’re funny haha
nagulat ako ng fish road kill na title. it’s really something fishy!
@ Viva Trips: Yes 🙁
@ Mae: It’s really so sad to see those poor animals on the road! Esp kittens!
@ Tina: Actually, it’s just one fish. hehe
kawawang fish, are they lovers kaya? 🙂
yes… sa san mateo din usually dogs hehe! i should know taga dun kasi ako! ^_^
Such a pity! Kawawa naman..
@ Stef: I was in a van the other day and we almost run over a kitten in the middle of the road! We managed to avoid it in time. I asked the van to stop so we could get the kitten out of the road, but when I looked back, somebody had already taken it to safety. Bless those kinds of people!
@ Red: You’ve seen a ‘roo run over? Poor animals!
@ Claire: It’s a result of being run over several times!
Hmm, I agree with Gay, it looks like a fossil of a prehistoric fish.
Wow! Fish Roadkill? That’d be a first for me – and I’ve seen all sorts of things downunder here in Australia!
Have a great day!
Looking at the photo leaves me mourning for the poor fish and many others of its kind. In my experience, the worst roadkill I’ve seen so far are kittens and giant rats. My heart stops and breaks when I see their bodies lying around AND people not caring about them.
@ Ian: Yeah, I know they are the contrabida fish, but I still couldn’t just let them lie there. Do you know that some people eat it? Yeah, I know right? I guess for some people, a fish is a fish! 😀
hmmmm…… yeah they look kawawa… hehe pero don’t throw them back sa river (contrabida mode… hehe) janitor fishes destroy the ecosystem since they are not endemic to the Philippines so their populations grows so fast because wala naman natural predators sa PH ang Janitor fishes so hindi rin nababawasan sila… nakakain nila resources for fishes endemic sa Ph… which puts local fishes in danger… hehehe… =)
@ BPS: I had shared that video in my Facebook the other day. Cutie ano?
@ Gay: Yeah, it has that effect nga. It was 12nn when I took the pic so I had to adjust the settings pa.
@ Nel: A monkey?? Kawawa naman :((
I’ve seen a monkey roadkill on the television. Heartless driver.
This roadkill looks uhm, prehistoric. Haha! Prolly the color?
Yes, it’s a sad that there’s only a few who cares. It’s sad that you arrived a bit too late.
Anyways, you like cats din pala. Just wanna share this video I found in Facebook. It left me smiling all by myself, I was overwhelmed with too much cuteness. Lol.
Enjoy! =D
Felt the same, Nicely. I guess it’s easy for some people to just ignore them.
Tsk tsk! Kawawa naman… I feel disheartened for them…
