If you are ever lucky enough to spend part of your life in Singapore as an expat, chances are you will always remember this time fondly. No matter where you originally came from, Singapore will surely offer something you have never experienced before.

The Marina Bay Sands and the Helix Bridge.

It is this very reason which makes writing an exhaustive list of top attractions and must-see destinations in Singapore a very difficult task—it obviously all depends on your personal inclinations and interests. The below is just a very short glimpse into the things you can see and do in Singapore.

Many might already be baffled by Singapore before they actually enter the country—Changi Airport is one of the most modern and architecturally appealing airports in the world. At the same time, shopaholics might want to go explore the gigantic mall it houses—the possibilities for an afternoon of shopping are almost endless here.

There is also no lack of shopping malls in the city—Singapore boasts a whopping 30 malls all around its territory! Mustafa Centre and ION Orchard are two of the more impressive shopping centers in Singapore. If you are looking for a more unique and authentic experience, however, you are well-advised to check out places such as Haji Lane and Sungei Road.

Of course, you can also shop in the ethnic districts displaying the way of life of the different cultures of Singapore—but why limit yourself to shopping? Chinatown and Little India, to name but two examples, offer so many delights for the senses that you could very well spend an entire day in each of them and not get bored. From the cultural to the culinary, you can find it all here. You’ll hear many an expat saying that the food in Singapore is among the top reasons to come and stay; what better reason to go find out yourself?

Singapore Flyer

Get a bird’s eye view of the city from the Singapore Flyer.

Two possibilities for experiencing the urban beauty of Singapore—very dissimilar in their nature—are the Singapore Flyer and the Singapore River Cruise. While the former offers a stunning view (and optional dinners) from atop the world’s highest observation wheel, the latter is a rather relaxing boat cruise along the river, passing the Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, and Marina Bay, giving you a very different perspective of the impressive modern architecture of the city-state.

One of the most spectacular recent additions to the long list of attractions in Singapore is the Marina Bay Sands hotel. Not only is it impressive as a world-class luxury hotel and popular venue for congresses and meetings—the real kicker is high above the city, on the roof. Here, you can get to enjoy what is easily one of the largest roof terraces in the world, Sands SkyPark.

What looks like a gigantic submarine resting atop a 55-floor building is actually the best destination in the entire city to get a breathtaking 360° view of Singapore. While up there, you also have plentiful opportunities for fine dining, relaxing at the beautiful hanging gardens, or even going for a swim in one of the pools.

Given all these things to do and see, you will definitely not regret your stay in Singapore!

I was in Singapore over the last weekend and all that is said here makes me want to go again. I was lucky enough to go on the Singapore Flyer for dinner. Although it is quite expensive, it was well worth it and was so romantic. Since the sunset is late in Singapore, 7:30pm flyer ride lets you see both day and night times. Beautiful photos.
