Snapshot Sunday—It’s More Fun in the Philippines!

With the recent launch of the Department of Tourism’s new slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” Filipinos the world over are scrambling to show why they believe in it. The meme became viral and the hashtag #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines is now trending in Twitter. Even my idol, Neil Gaiman, also joined, saying “@neilhimself #itsmorefuninthephilippines hashtag is a true one. They applaud loudly and hug you a lot.”

As a travel blogger, I fully support the DOT’s campaign to promote tourism in the country. After all, it really is more fun in the Philippines than elsewhere! Here’s why:

Kissing

A love affair with beauty in Caramoan Islands, Camarines Sur.

Wawa Dam

Making a living by “backpacking” in Wawa Dam, Montalban.

being-a-kid

Playing sungka (Filipino game) in El Nido.

catnapping

Relaxing by the seaside in El Nido, Palawan.

commuting

Tourists being taken to Tukuran Falls, Or. Mindoro.

chilling

Chilling by Danakit Cave in Surigao del Sur.

feeling-blue

Tranquility in one of the islands in Caramoan.

rolling-stones

Bouldering in Wawa Dam, Montalban, is certainly fun!

making-faces

Streetdancing in the Masskara Festival, Bacolod City.

dinner-out

Heavenly al fresco dining in El Nido, Palawan.

Would you like to make your own meme? It’s very simple. Just choose your best travel photo (if you use another photographer’s picture, make sure to give credits) and download the Harabara font here. By using a photo editing software like Photoscape or Adobe Photoshop, you can then insert the text you like. Make sure to include the phrase “It’s more fun in the Philippines.” It’s that simple.

Let’s all support Philippine travel! If you need more convincing, watch the video below. You will surely fall in love with my country!

great pictures you have ! nice idea, i will try to do this ! thanks ! It’s more Fun in The Philippines ! Let’s go around the wonderful Philippines and around the wonderful world! Let’s watch out for more fun and enjoy!

  • Cha said:

Your second photo is not funny. I think the thing that would come to mind is that you are making fun of the Philippines. Due to extreme poverty, some people in the Philippines need to manually haul vegetables on their back in order to sell their produce in the market. We know for a fact that our country lack farm to market roads that could enhance the lives of the farmers in far flung barangays. Please select another photo for Backpacking. It shows a different spin which may or may not help the cause of DOT.

    Other photos are great!

  • Aleah said:

@ Tess: It’s also up to us to help the tourism industry. We are doing that part now by promoting the slogan.
@ Myrns: Thanks! Let’s promote it more?
@ Cha: Thanks for your input but I would have to disagree. I’m not making fun of the workers. I’m pointing out that if backpacking for most means traveling and relaxing, there are people in the Philippines who do that to make a living. In a way, I’m raising awareness without being nega. However, I’m also curious about the others’ reactions to this photo. Do other readers share your opinion? I would really like to know!

it’s really fun in the ph and until now hindi ko pa rin nalilibot ang ibang province. i hope that they will not just change the slogan but they will also improve the security of the tourists so it will be fun and safe in ph. but if you will ask me, i still prefer “WOW Philippines” hehe!

nice collections… but i really feel that the slogan lacks an international magnet. it is good, but it somehow lacks strength to attract foreign tourism… it is really good for us, local tourists though

With the pictures that you have posted, I think we should not use the slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines”, we should use “It’s super fun in the Philippines”

Yay the Bacolod Masskara Festival is here.. :) I don’t know why there are a lot of speculations about the new slogan as gaya gaya to Switzerland. For me it’s quite effective although I really love the concept of Dick Gordon’s Wow Philippines.

  • Gil Camporazo said:

Wherever you may go there’s more fun in the Philippines. To name only few, the Filipino themselves are fun-loving people; the festivals in everywhere in the country, there’s more fun in it. You won’t regret if you go to the Philippines. There’s fun in the Philippines, indeed.
